With UNG-Gainesville being a commuter campus, most of us are venturing off campus for lunch or dinner. If you’re on campus more than twice a week, that can start to get a little expensive. Here are some of the best ways to save some green on your next lunch break.
1. Apps Are Your Best Friend
A lot of restaurants around Oakwood use apps to try and get customers in the door. Most of the apps can be used for coupons or store rewards points. Some of the best restaurant apps to use come from Dunkin Donuts, Taco Bell, Chick-fil-A, and Moe’s. Use a different app every day, and your wallet will thank you.
2. Free Food On Campus
There are lots of opportunities to score some free food on campus. The school will host events from time to time, and these events will usually involve food. Clubs will often have food at their meetings as well, so join some clubs. You’ll meet new people, learn new things, and get free pizza. It’s a no brainer.
3. Use Your Student ID
Most if not all of the restaurants in the area have special discounts and deals for UNG students. Meal discounts are the most common type of deal in Oakwood, but Chick-fil-A will give UNG students a free medium drink. Student discounts are one of the best reasons to get an education.
4. Free Iced Coffee For Days
The coffee shop in the Nesbitt building lets students get free refills for their iced coffee. Your license for unlimited iced coffee ends each day, but a large iced coffee is only $3.16 (including tax). You will never go without caffeine ever again. Cheers!
5. Don’t Overdo It
Don’t try and buy more food than you’ll eat. It’s just a waste of money, and that’s not cool. If you are going to buy extra food, just save it. you are basically throwing away your money every time you throw away your leftover lunch. Maye give it to your family if you don’t want to eat, or just give it to me.
6. Lunch Specials
Some places have special lunch menus that are only available between certain times. You will end up spending less and getting more if you eat during their lunch special times. There is literally no downside.
7. “Holiday” Specials
Some places will have special offers during food themed “holidays”. Like National Doughnut Day or National Coffee Day. Dunkin Donuts will have specials on these days every year. The McDonald’s in Oakwood has a Fry Friday, where the give people free fries. Who doesn’t want free fries? No one.
