SGA allocates mini-grant and approves skate club

The Student Government Association voted to allocate $30,000 in a mini-grant to Nighthawks Entertainment at the organization’s meeting on Oct. 9. This mini-grant is to help fund the spring concert for a bigger act that will be held in the Dahlonega campus’ Convocation Center.

SGA voted to recognize All-Sk8 Club as a student life organization on the Dahlonega campus. All-Sk8’s goal is to unite people by getting them immersed in skate culture. The organization’s members believe skating is a unique activity that could easily bring together a diverse group of people united by the hobby they love. It has around 10 members but hopes to grow as members start planning for set meeting places and times.

Voting for Mr. and Miss UNG starts today, Oct. 11. It will end on Monday, Oct. 16 and spirit night is on Wednesday, Oct. 18. SGA will host a pep rally in front of Hoag at noon on Wednesday where they will be handing out beads and raising school pride followed by a tailgate party at 5:30 p.m. right before the game. Food and refreshments will be provided for anyone with a University of North Georgia student card.

This Thursday, Nighthawks Entertainment will be hosting an open mic night and a bonfire on the promenade from 7-11 p.m. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

Also on this Thursday, from 1 to 4 p.m. Multicultural Student Affairs are having a cultural expo in Hoag’s Great Room. There will be cultural presentations, refreshments and, from 2 to 3 p.m., a Peruvian dance performance.
