Commencement for the class of 2025 is right around the corner at the University of North Georgia.
Graduation celebrates years of hard work, but it’s stressful too.
Here’s what the seniors and graduates said about it:
What makes you the most nervous about the future?
“Honestly, finding a job when the job market is so stagnant right now. I’m going into a field that is very competitive, and, in this economy, jobs are so scarce.” Margo Perry, senior kinesiology major
“I’m nervous about finding the graduate program that fits me best. There are a lot of options, and I am not sure what to do.” Meghan O’Brien, junior Biology major
“Working a job that makes me happy, I do not want to get stuck doing a job that I hate for the rest of my life.” Faith Bullied, junior criminal justice major
“I’m nervous about finding a full-time job and not just having part-time ones.” Mychael Fruits, senior marketing major
What is your biggest piece of advice you would give seniors, and upcoming seniors in college?
“[Do] not place so many expectations on yourself. You’re at a phase in life where there is a lot of pressure in what the next step is and having the perfect plan. However, the most perfect thing you can do in your last semester of college is to not get caught up in those worries and just be present. Soak in the little moments you have with the people and places you love.” Michelle Lapenta, 2023 graduate kinesiology major
I’d probably say to be patient while job searching for the right one will come so don’t settle for something you won’t enjoy and also to not get stressed [or] anxious if others seem to have everything figured out. Just focus on you.” Bailey Vessel, 2022 graduate business major
I would say to keep up with the relationships you have because there is a huge change ahead, and you’re going to need people to support you and some comfort to come back to when it feels like too much. Also to keep an open mind for what’s ahead because random opportunities might get thrown at you, so don’t stress too much about things you can’t control.” Sierra Fowler, 2024 graduate marketing major
“I would say, make the most of the last few moments with the people around you. Once everyone graduates and starts their careers and you don’t see them every day like you used to, you will realize how lucky you are to have the memories to look back on and it’s fun to relive them whenever you think about them.” Bailey Wiernusz, 2023 graduate biology major
“When you graduate, remember that it is just the beginning. There will be a lot more to learn and it’s helpful to be open to new experiences. You’ll be starting a new phase of your life, and it will be both exciting and challenging but so worth it. Don’t forget to prioritize your mental and physical health as you transition into the next phase, and remember that it’s okay not to have everything figured out. Be patient with yourself and trust that your path will unfold in unexpected and exciting ways.” Kaleigh Killeen, 2022 graduate marketing major
