Legends of Rock jamming at the Cumming City Center.
On Saturday, Aug. 16, the Cumming City Center welcomed the Legends of Rock tribute band for a night of classic rock from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s.
The City Center offers a wide range of activities, including concerts, farmers’ markets, and wellness events, all open to the public. Some of the most popular events are the free concerts hosted at the Lou Sobh Amphitheater in the heart of the City Center.
Although rain caused a one-hour delay before the concert began, the Legends of Rock event still drew a sizable crowd. The amphitheater was filled with people ready to enjoy the rest of the night.
Cover songs such as “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne and “Have a Drink on Me” by AC/DC had the audience singing, dancing and cheering for the musicians.
Maddie Mendieta, a junior at the University of North Georgia’s Cumming campus, was among the attendees. It was her first visit to the City Center.

“There [isn’t] usually a lot of things to do around the Cumming Campus, but the City Center is nearby,” Mendieta said. She added that students could go there to do schoolwork or hang out.
“The tribute concert was pretty interesting,” said Mendieta, noting that it was fun that the performers dressed up as the musicians they were covering.
“It was refreshing seeing all the adults and kids having fun in the weather,” she added.
“The crowd was definitely digging [the concert]”-Maddie Mendieta, a computer science junior at the University of North Georgia Cumming Campus.
Mendieta pointed out the convenience of the layout of the venue, which offered both a space to stand by the stage and an area to set up chairs and blankets. She also complimented the band’s vocals, instruments and costumes.
Zunzeiry Melendez, a Cumming resident, also spent her evening at the Cumming City Center.
“I enjoyed hearing the cover artists sing, and I definitely added some new music to my Spotify”, Melendez said.
With several local restaurants on site, guests were able to grab a bite to eat during or after the show. Melendez mentioned how the City Center has plenty to do, finding herself, like many others, visiting Crooked Culture Brewery while waiting for the concert to start.

“The crowd was quite large and engaging,” said Melendez, “They seemed to really enjoy the music being played.”
Melendez has visited the City Center several times during her eight months of living in Cumming, attending other events such as the Farmers Market and other tribute concerts.
“There is so much to do at the city center if you’re looking for something relaxed and not so rushed,” Melendez said.
Tribute concerts happen most Saturdays through October. A more detailed list of events at the City Center can be found here.
