North Georgia men’s golf is ranked number one in the nation by the Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll after a win at the McCoy-Wright Currahee Invitational.
The Nighthawks made school history earlier in the season at the Cateechee Fall Invitational with a team score of 37 strokes under par, winning the event by 16 strokes. UNG broke the Peach Belt Conference record for the lowest team round at the same event with a 20 under-par score during the opening round.
Graduate assistant coach Ryan Hogan said, “To see this program go from where it was six years ago to its first number-one ranking in school history makes me proud to be a nighthawk.”
“It is a testament to hard work that both current and former team members have put in to build the program to this point and I’m excited to see what the future holds for UNG golf,” said Hogan. Hogan also says that the team is lucky that their head coach, Bryson Worley, pushes them to be “elite.”
UNG graduate student Noah Zediker was named the PBC Golfer of the Week for the second time this season after winning individually at the McCoy-Wright Currahee Invitational. Zediker had top-10 finishes in all five events played this fall with three finishes in the top five.
“I think we had a productive fall. We’re so excited to get back into it in the spring,” says senior communications major Jack Vajda. Vajda had three top-10 finishes in his first season playing at North Georgia.
North Georgia finished in the top three in all five of their tournaments this fall with three of those finishes being in first place. Junior business management major Hughes Threlkeld says, “It’s really cool to be number one but we still need to improve and play even better in the spring.”
The Nighthawks will return to the course in the spring of 2024 to finish out their season.
