Charli XCX is Getting BRAT-ty This Summer

The Pop artist is just living that life.

On Feb. 28, 2024, Charli XCX announced her eighth studio album titled “BRAT.” Alongside the album announcement, she released the lead single “Von Dutch,” a song that taunts her haters and lays out the theme for the upcoming album – exactly as the title says, being a brat.

Upon the announcement of this album, many fans had concerns regarding the cover design. In a comment on the Instagram post announcing the album, a commenter says, “girl i love you but [I] hope this [is] not the album cover.”

The cover’s lime green background has “brat” written in low-resolution text across the center. One fan says, “Art directors must be on strike, dear god…” Charli responded to this criticism in an X post saying, “I think the constant demand for access to women’s bodies and faces in our album artwork is misogynistic and boring.” She fired back by launching the website bratgenerator.com, where fans could make their own renditions of the album cover. Throughout the next few weeks, fans turned the album cover into a popular meme. Charli then posted an altered version with the caption “fixed it.”

The album’s theme of being a brat is reinforced in the two singles released on April 3, “Club Classics” and “B2b.” “Club Classics” is a beat-driven, production-heavy song about how Charli wants her club experience to be. She names herself and artists close to her as club classics.

Yeah, I wanna dance to me, I wanna dance to A. G / I wanna dance with George, I wanna dance to SOPHIE /
I wanna dance to HudMo /

Along with these two singles, she announced a full U.K. tour. Two weeks later, on April 17, Charli in collaboration with singer Troye Sivan announced their joint tour titled “SWEAT.”  Supported by Shygirl, this North American tour will make a stop in Georgia Oct. 3.
