The Gainesville Theatre Alliance has come together with Brenau University to put on the musical “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” showing Oct. 5 – Oct. 12. There will also be an ice cream social on Sunday Oct. 6 after the 2:30 p.m. performance. This musical tells the story of the three little pigs but adds a twist.
During the musical Brenau’s Pierce Auditorium transforms into a piggy court where the big bad wolf goes up against the judge and the council woman. The people of the town come together to tell their experience or sighting of the wolf. Whether the wolf wins or loses in the trial is up to the audience to decide.
“The lesson of the story is that you shouldn’t judge a person by the way they look. There is always a deeper part of the story you could be missing.” -Jameson Belgrave, portraying Al the wolf.
Joy Evans, the stage manager, said, “We have a band for the show and have people coming in for wardrobe to perfect the looks for the cast.” Evans worked to make the show exciting and entertaining for everyone there.
Children from different schools will be attending the show as part of their field trips. Kids and guests will have time to meet with the performers after each show and learn more about their characters.
“We even went as far as sending paper crafts of different animal ears to schools for students to wear at the show,” Evans said.
Amanda González, playing Judge Prudence, said, “I hope the kids enjoy the show and learn or gain something from it.” González expressed her excitement for the kids by adding “I’m excited to see if the show sparks interests in theatre for the children and I hope I might see them on the stage one day.”
This show will be the first time a college has performed the musical. The performers expressed their excitement by introducing a new side of the act that we don’t see.
Jameson Belgrave, playing the role of the wolf, said, “I faced some challenges with my character and trying to make it more realistic for the kids.” Belgrave indicates his experience during the rehearsals by saying “We worked really hard to make sure we played our characters superbly to be confident the show is portrayed well.” This dedication highights the hard work of the performers and enhances the performance overall.
