“Terrifier 3” kicked off the scare this Halloween season on Oct. 11 nationwide. The premiere night was a success as countless theater locations across the state were sold out in anticipation of the horror film.
According to Forbes, 11 audience members exited the early premiere of “Terrifier 3” in the United Kingdom. Days later, due to its controversy and horrific gore, the movie was banned in all theaters across France.
The “Terrifier” franchise is well known for its low-budget gory scenes, which most fans called “elevated horror.” Damien Leone, the director, displayed that by topping the murders from the past movies. Leone gleefully built up the hype for the film by capitalizing on the reportedly visceral reactions during the early screenings of the film.
“The gore was absolutely insane. There was definitely a few parts that made me a little nauseous. It blew my expectations of gore out the water.” – Thomas Angin, “Terrifier 3” audience member
Rotten Tomatoes gave the new film an audience score of 89%. The film has already grossed $18.8 million despite having a budget of roughly $2 million.
Many characters from the second installment returned for the third film. Lauren LaVera and Elliott Fuller returned to their roles of Sienna Shaw and brother Jonathan Shaw. She and her brother are working on rebuilding their shattered lives as the Christmas season approaches. They try and embrace the holiday season and leave the past behind. What they come to realize is that it is going to be a lot harder than expected. What they went through in the past with Art the Clown comes back around.
Many believe that Art, played by David Howard Thorton, has become more mainstream and popular in recent times, as most content related to the film has made its way across social media. Matt Hudson, a critic for Rotten Tomatoes, described the film as a fun, bloody experience that elevates Art as a horror icon.
“I think he [Art] is a heavy hitter. He has the silence of Michael Myers and Freddy [Krueger]. I believe he is up there now. He has made a name for himself.” – Melissa Kennedy, “Terrifier 3” audience member
