The Gainesville Theatre Alliance will present “A Monster Calls”, based on the acclaimed novel by Patrick Ness, from Nov. 8 – 16 at the Ed Cabell Theatre on the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus.
The stage adaptation of Ness’ “A Monster Calls” has long been celebrated for its moving exploration of grief, childhood and the power of storytelling. The novel, which has won numerous literary awards, tells the poignant story of 13-year-old Conor O’Malley, who struggles to cope with his mother’s terminal illness. One night, he is visited by a mysterious, towering monster who guides him through a series of tales, ultimately helping him confront his deepest fears. The blend of fantasy and harsh reality makes for a heart-wrenching yet uplifting tale of love, loss and acceptance.
UNG students and community members who have read the novel may find the stage version particularly appealing, offering a fresh perspective on a story they know and love. The performance will be held at the newly renovated Ed Cabell Theatre, providing a modern and comfortable venue for audiences to enjoy the show.
