Atlanta Fashion Week, created by marketing executive Angela Watts, returned to showcase the 2024 Fall/Winter collections from Atlanta and out-of-state designers. This year’s shows were scheduled on 2 separate days: Thursday Oct. 3 and Friday Oct. 4.
The campaign “Not of This World” from the Atlanta based brand GOAT By James King, was the first of eight to hit the runway. GOAT By James King was founded in 2018 by designer Quintin Crumpler, with a focus on prep and sportswear.
For Crumpler, incorporating the word of God is a big part of what he does.
“I’m a very spiritual person. I have a… strong relationship with God, so I think it’s important for me to be out and open about my faith,” Crumpler expressed.
The title of his new collection stems from the Bible verse John 15:19.
The second collection to hit the runway was BDR Black. Created by stylist Brian Robinson and based in New York, BDR Black is categorized as a gender-neutral athleisure-wear brand. Having styled notable figures such as singer-songwriter
Keyisha Cole and CNN anchor Abby Philip, Robinson brings experience and attention to detail into his work.
Other notable names to hit the 2024 runway included Alani Taylor and FUBU, For Us By Us.
“There’s a lot of talented designers here in Atlanta. It’s only a matter of time before we get, you know, the recognition we all deserve… We have our own unique aesthetic and I think that’s what makes Atlanta unique, it’s kind of like a melting pot,” Crumpler shared.
FUBU will have an art installation available to view at the Buckhead Art and Co. art gallery up until Oct. 20. Tickets can be purchased through the official fashion week website.
