Lionsgate has officially announced the film adaptation of the best-selling novel, “The Housemaid,” written by author Freida McFadden.
Originally published in 2020, “The Housemaid” quickly became a bestseller, with fans drawing praise for its intricate plot and compelling characters.
The story follows the life of Millie Calloway in a first person point-of-view style. Calloway is a struggling young woman with a dark past who finds herself jobless and living in her car. She then gets hired as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina and Andrew Winchester, only to uncover a disturbing line of secrets and danger that puts her life at risk.
The book’s blend of suspense, psychological depth and unexpected twists has earned it a dedicated fanbase, making the film adaptation highly anticipated.
The film is set to star Sydney Sweeney, known for her roles in “Anyone but You” and “Euphoria,” as Mille Calloway. Alongside Amanda Seyfried, known for her roles in “Mamma Mia” and “Jennifer’s Body” as Nina Winchester.
Paul Feig, filmmaker known for “A Simple Favor” and “Spy,” will direct the psychological thriller with Rebecca Sonnenshine, producer, adapting the screenplay.
In an Instagram post, McFadden said, “Lionsgate has come up with the perfect cast and director, and I am just so grateful!”

While many details about the film’s cast and crew remain under wraps, the project is generating buzz within the literary and film communities. Many members of the “Gals Who Read” international book club are eager to see how the story’s complex characters and thrilling plot will translate to film.
Nina Di Stefano, a member of the club and longtime fan of McFadden’s works, shared, “I love this. I loved the first two books and I’m really excited to see who’s going to be casted as Andrew and Enzo,” the lead male roles.
“I read ‘The Housemaid’ when it first came out, and I loved it,” Goddessmarie Myers, another member of the club, shared. “Hearing that a movie is coming out made me realize I have to read the other two books and just I know those will be equally as good.”
Though the release date for the film has yet to be announced, “The Housemaid” is positioned to attract not only fans of the novel but also new viewers looking for an intense cinematic experience.
