On the evening of Oct. 23 from 6 – 10 p.m. the Promenade in Dahlonega turned into a spooky festival filled with fun and friends. The event attracted a large crowd of students with its music and colorful lights that could be seen from afar.
Students and attendees at the event were given many treats and scares. The event featured several mazes throughout the attraction. The first maze at the entrance of the event was the glass maze. The two-story attraction allowed attendees to move through the glass maze and then slide back down from the top.
There were other mazes for guest to enjoy such as the blow-up corn maze and additional inflatables. In these mazes, Nighthawks Entertainment had scary actors and actresses ready to jump out at any minute. Guests had the option of entering the mazes after signing a safety waiver.
The night held several other festivities for students to enjoy including axe throwing and a free fall experience. Axe throwing could be done in groups of two or more and was also inflatable, making it safe for even the clumsiest of students. For those interested in exhilarating motions, the free fall was a thrilling experience where students could climb up to the top and free fall 18 feet down to the bottom, landing safely into the pillow-like catcher.
“This event is one of the best things about fall which is always the festivals and fairs.” – Whitney Mcleod, UNG freshman kinesiology major
Another added thrilling adventure was the zip lining experience. Students would get geared up to ride the zip line back down to the ground. A ferris wheel was also available for students to ride amongst the other attractions at the event. The ride could seat two students at a time in one row and was a fun way to get the true feel of a festival experience.
Lauren McBride, a freshman at the University of North Georgia studying elementary and special education said, “My favorite part of the event was the games and the inflatables. I was also impressed with the number of activities they got for the event.”
There were tents set up to do free face painting along with people drawing caricatures of pairs of two. Along with all the festivities, students were also served dinner and treats during the event. The food included barbecue chicken, pork, potato salad and coleslaw. For dessert there were cupcakes, cookies and free snacks that were provided as well, adding popcorn and cotton candy to the list of foods served at the event.
