First announced during the Nintendo Direct on June 18, “Fairy Tail 2” is the latest action role-playing game from KOEI TECMO America and developer Gust, based on the popular “Fairy Tail” manga and anime franchise. A direct sequel to the original game released in 2020, this game is set to launch Dec. 13 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch with an early release on Dec. 11 for Windows PC via Steam.
At Tokyo Game Show 2024, a new trailer provided a glimpse of enhanced real-time combat and narrative. The game, set in the Alvarez Empire Arc, places players in intense battles against Emperor Spriggan Zeref and his elite Spriggan 12. The upgraded combat system brings a sense of immediacy to battles, allowing players to deploy characters’ iconic moves and unlock two new cooperative techniques: “Link Attacks” and “Unison Raid,” which let players combine attacks for greater impact.
In addition to the combat overhaul, “Fairy Tail 2” offers an expanded character progression system that gives players control over skill development for each character. This customizable feature enables fans to tailor the growth of their favorite characters based on play style and strategy preferences. As players progress through the story, they will unlock character-specific narratives that introduce new facets of the main characters’ lives and backgrounds.
KOEI TECMO has also announced two collector’s editions for “Fairy Tail 2.” The “Fairy Tail 2 Guild Box” edition, available only through the NIS America store, includes the visual art book “Sorcerer Magazine Special Issue: Game Release Edition Vol. 2,” a special Shikishi with a holographic finish available in three types.
For digital gamers, fans can preorder the “Fairy Tail 2 Digital Deluxe Edition,” which includes extra in-game content such as exclusive costumes, characters, new scenarios and other downloadable content designed to enhance gameplay and extend the experience. Players who purchase “Fairy Tail 2” before Dec. 27 will also receive an early-purchase bonus—the “Miss Fairy Tail Contest” costume for Lucy—available to download from digital storefronts.
“After the original Fairy Tail RPG released in 2020, we had fans tell us they wanted more, they wanted to see the final chapter adapted in a game.” – Jon Robinson, Senior Public Relations Manager
With its release fast approaching, “Fairy Tail 2” promises to be a major event for RPG and “Fairy Tail” fans alike. Packed with upgraded combat mechanics, rich character narratives and exclusive collector’s items, “Fairy Tail 2“ is set to deliver an engaging and action-filled experience in the “Fairy Tail” universe. The title also features a game-original story, “the Key to the Unknown”, showcasing what happens to fan favorite characters after the Alvarez Empire Arc, taking players on one last adventure.
