An iconic metro Atlanta radio station has said its final goodbyes. WFSH-FM, commonly known as 104.7 The Fish, has gone off the air after over 24 years of serving the Atlanta area. The station played contemporary Christian hits during its tenure.
The Fish’s parent company, Salem Media Group, sold WFSH-FM and six other radio stations nationwide in attempt to pay off debt. The seven stations were sold to the Educational Media Program for $90 million in December. Educational Media Program and Salem Media Group agreed to allow the station to continue to run through January, allowing radio hosts to bid their farewells.
The Fish was one of the best-performing radio stations in 2024, especially during the holiday season. Nielson Audio Ratings had 104.7 The Fish as the second most popular station in Atlanta over the holidays, behind WSB-AM’s news and talk station. The station played Christmas music every year throughout this time, which became a staple of the Christmas season for many people.
On their website, The Fish posted one final message:
‘Thanks for the memories! For many amazing years, you’ve been part of our journey—tuning in, engaging, and making us a part of your day. While the 104.7 The Fish is saying goodbye, we are excited to share that Air1 will continue Worship music in the area. We invite you and your family to join Air1 for the worship and messages that strive to bring people closer to Jesus.’
“All I can say is thank you. Our hearts are just full of gratitude for you guys. We will always remember you.” – Taylor Scott, co-host of “The Kevin And Taylor Show”
During the final moments, evening host Penny Faulkner and her husband shared one final message on The Fish. “We are here right now as a testimony to God’s plan. I believe he made sure this was going to happen – you could be here to listen and know that you were made in the image of the living God with purpose. Our job has been to encourage you, that you could be an encourager and turn those who don’t know the Lord back into the light… This is not a goodbye, it’s a see you later.”
Faulker hit the play button for the final time, playing “Goodbye” by Night Ranger as the final song.
While 104.7 is no longer known as The Fish, EMF continues to play Christian music as a part of their Air1 network, which operates hundreds of stations around the United States. Air1 already operates four other stations in Georgia including Atlanta, Statesboro, Savannah and Augusta. Air1 focuses more on worship music, as opposed to The Fish’s Christian contemporary hits. WSFH-FM is now WAIA and is licensed in Athens, GA, and covers the same area as The Fish.
“As Salem has leaned into its talk and information programming, we are honored to carry the torch and keep Christian music flowing over these frequencies,” said Tom Stultz, EMF’s Interim CEO. “These strong stations expand our coverage area and help us deliver on our mission to reach more people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We feel it is an incredible opportunity to continue serving listeners with Christian music in these important markets.”
