In February, the Tex-Mex restaurant, Surcheros made its debut in Dahlonega, Georgia. Replacing where the old Moe’s Southwest Grill was located, the new restaurant has offered students and locals an opportunity to get free food.
On Feb. 25, Surcheros offered 100 free burritos for the first 100 customers in line.
Last semester Moe’s Southwest Grill announced it was closing.
Angie Garcia, a sophomore computer science major said, “I was really upset when it was closed because it used to be my postgame place to eat with all of my friends.” Garcia is a member of the University of North Georgia Women’s Soccer team.
Toby Penner, a junior marketing major, said, “I have never been here before, but I am really excited to try it.”
However, Penner was person number 101 in line, so he did not get the free burritos. Penner says the restaurant employees felt badly about this and gave him three free entree tickets.
Another UNG student, Faith Bullied, a junior criminal justice major, said, “I heard that there were people standing in line as early as 5 a.m, however I would have stood in line if I knew about it.”
The new Surcheros location is 25 Morrison Moore Pkwy in Dahlonega.
