From the heart of Gwinnett County to the front of the classroom, Emily Howell’s journey from Mill Creek High School student to passionate elementary educator is rooted in a lifelong commitment to helping children succeed. With a degree in early childhood and special education from the University of North Georgia, Howell brings both hometown pride and professional purpose to her teaching every day.
During her UNG years, Howell was involved in campus ministries. Howell says, “I spent my summers serving at a local girls’ summer mission camp called Camp Pinnacle and had the opportunity to pour into young girls and teach them about missions. I also was involved in a local church, and through that was able to serve Dahlonega and the community around me.”
Howell says, “It has been difficult to balance teaching and maintaining my community. As a first-year teacher, I spend more time at school than my contract hours require, and I have had to be super intentional with friendships.”
Even with her busy schedule, Howell still comes back to mentor UNG students through their college years. Howell says, “I never expected to be back at UNG as much as I am post-graduation, but I am grateful for the opportunity it has given me.”
