UNG’s own student-led public relations group, SPRUNG, achieved a prosperous partnership with local Dahlonega Chiropractor, Dr Todd Holubitsky. The results proved fruitful in the form of an advertising campaign featured at local Highschool Football games.
The skies grew cloudy on the evening off Sept. 5. as the Lumpkin High School Indians looked to square off with the Wildcats of Dunwoody. In addition to this students and staff at Lumpkin were celebrating their elder class’s senior night, giving their soon to be graduates a proper send off.
In addition to this, The University of North Georgia’s Communications Department had its own reason to celebrate. The school’s PR team, SPRUNG, spearheaded a publicity drive that saw a featured slot on the Indians jumbotron.
According to UNG’s website, the SPRUNG program is meant to give students going into public relations an outlet to graduate from the institution with a professional background and real-world experience. In the article, Communications Professor Toluwani Oloke says that the program’s experiences “put them over and above someone who just has an internship.”
Film and Digital Media Major Caden Woodward, a member of the program believes this past summer’s partnership between the PR firm and Dahlonega’s friendly neighborhood Chiropractic Specialist, Dr Todd Holubitsky, is a shining example of this program at its best.
“I believe that this is a good result from the SPRUNG program because the team that was involved in the process learned many valuable techniques and information regarding the process of making a commercial.” – Caden Woodward, Film and Digital Media Major
The commercial for Dr Holubitsky marks the first project to come out of UNG’s SPRUNG program. For UNG Communications Major Wyatt Nicholson, another member of the initiative, it’s only a beginning.
Nicholson feels that while the commercial is a good example of what SPRUNG can do, he says that they want it to lead to more reliable partnerships within the community.
“This first step has been exciting, but we’re eager to keep building on it and see just how far we can take this.” Wyatt Nicholson, UNG Communications Major
Furthermore, Nicholson says SPRUNG wants to keep growing their skillset and provide stronger services to their partners. “That means creating more content in different forms-whether that’s writing, social media campaigns, graphic design, or video,” he said.
