Zoo Atlanta is offering a special opportunity for past, present and current university students on Sunday, Sept. 14. Their brand-new “U at the Zoo” event gives current college students free admission to the zoo and access to special events tailored toward university populations. To receive free admission, students will need to show their current student ID at the main gate. A $10 discount on admission will be offered to prospective and graduated university students who wear college apparel to this event.
“Zoo Atlanta is a source of inspiration and a resource for continuing education for people of all ages, and likewise, the living animal population at the Zoo brings biology and other sciences to life far beyond the borders of the classroom” – Rachel Davis, director of communications at Zoo Atlanta
This event will start at 3:30 p.m. and last until 7:30 p.m. that evening, with the last entry being offered at 6 p.m. Some activities available include a scavenger hunt and a watercolor workshop with Rosebud Studios. Attendees will also be able to enjoy the Endangered Species Carousel and train rides on the Norfolk Southern Zoo Train. Music will be supplied by DJ Solo Mauro. Bubbles Over Georgia will showcase bubble artists.
“We’d like university students to know that visiting the zoo is much more than just an experience; it is support for a cause that is working to preserve species and their habitats for future generations. We also want our community to know that the zoo isn’t just for kids. There are opportunities and events for people of all ages,” Davis said. “College students can explore the zoo and enjoy a fun evening with friends, while alumni can connect with other alumni and enjoy showing their school spirit. Future college students also have an opportunity to learn more about what goes into the pathway to careers in the animal and veterinary sciences.”

There will also be opportunities for students to work with Zoo Atlanta volunteers and experts, encouraging further exploration of how conservation efforts impact animals and their habitats. More information about the animals and career opportunities can be found on Zoo Atlanta’s website.
“My favorite part is definitely the reptile house with all the snakes and other things of that nature,” said Maddox Newell, a senior cybersecurity major at the University of North Georgia. “I think the building itself, for it is incredibly cool, and I love looking at all the variety of stuff living there. I think I will go next weekend because I haven’t been since high school, and I think it’d be a really fun trip!”
