Corso has been the face of college football for nearly 40 years. He has dedicated his life to the sport, and on the first weekend of the 2025 CFB season, the sport dedicated it to him.
Many college football fans around the country were wearing “Lee Corso” shirts in their team colors. It was a celebration to thank him for all he’s done in peoples’ lives.
“Just growing up and watching Lee Corso make his prediction on “College GameDay”. It felt like peak life. The Gameday crew making predictions will never feel or be the same.” – Jake Ledbetter, University of Georgia senior sports management major
Not only has Corso won people over emotionally, financially, but he has also provided some with a fun weekend.
On his final day, Corso went six for six.
He picked Tennessee, Florida State, South Carolina, Miami, LSU and Ohio State all to win, and they did. If you were to place a $100 bet on a parlay of the six teams, you would get a payout of $10,296.86.
The college football legend won a lot of Americans’ money on his final day on the job.
Ashton Smith, a Business major at the University of North Georgia, holds Corso in high regard.
“When I think college football, I think Lee Corso. The game will never be the same without the man. Ever since I can remember, Saturday mornings were the highlight of my weekend when he would throw on the headgear,” Smith said.
Corso had spot-on picks on his last day and has been very consistent with his headgear picks throughout the years. He has made a total of 431 headgear picks. His record in those picks, 287-144. For some, that record may not seem as good as it really is, but being able to pick the winner of the best game each weekend at a 66.5% rate is rare.
The purpose of “College GameDay” is to highlight one game each weekend and bring the college football community to that location. The Gameday crew brings in over 2 million viewers weekly.
Corso and the “College GameDay” crew have been an important part of many football watchers’ weekends, so saying goodbye to one of the most popular parts of it isn’t easy for some.
