On Oct. 22, Sigma Kappa hosted Animals for Alz on the University of North Georgia’s Dahlonega campus. Sigma Kappa’s Director of Philanthropy and Service, Jayda Braithwaite, organized the event.
Animals for Alz is a philanthropy event featuring a petting zoo and fall-festival activities. The event was open to students and the public to participate. During the event, sisters aim to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association.

The mobile petting zoo, Lozano Farms, brought an assortment of animals. There were smaller animals like a chicken, a duck and a bunny. Then larger animals like a donkey, a pig, a cow, a sheep, a goat and two alpacas.
“While I do not have a personal connection to Alzheimer’s, being a member of Sigma Kappa has given me the opportunity to stand by my sisters that do. I have been able to hear stories about the loved ones of sisters that have been diagnosed and impacted by Alzheimer’s, and being able to just be there for them and be supportive of them makes me feel more connected to my sisters and this philanthropy.” – Jayda Braithwaite, junior Political Science
Through Animals for Alz, $2,566 was raised for the Sigma Kappa Foundation’s Alzheimer’s Disease Research Fund.
