The Atlanta Braves are the 2021 World Series Champions and they have renewed hope for all Atlanta sports fans. A season plagued with injuries had fans doubting the team’s ability to even make it into the 2021 playoffs. The Braves front office made the necessary moves to allow the team to prevail.
The World Series win ended a 25-year drought for Atlanta sports teams. The city had not taken home a championship since the 1995 World Series win from the Atlanta Braves.
“After Ronald Acuña Jr. got hurt, I felt like our season was doomed but now I’ve never been happier.” – University of North Georgia Student Megan Keivani
The Braves fell into injury trouble in the middle of July when arguably the best player in Major League Baseball Acuña Jr. tore his ACL. On top of these injuries, the Braves had lost other key players throughout the season including Marcell Ozuna due to incarceration.
The Braves finished the regular season with 88 wins and 73 losses. These numbers are impressive due to the fact that the Braves front office acquired four key players after the injuries occurred in mid-July.
The Braves acquired outfielders Joc Pederson, Eddie Rasario, Adam Duvall, and Jorge Soler in order to keep their season afloat. These players proved to be key acquisitions during the Braves post-season run. They combined for 12 home runs in the postseason and Soler was even named the World Series’ most valuable player.
First Baseman Freddie Freeman said this season felt special because the team all had to pick up the slack after they lost in his opinion the best player in the national league. Freeman continued to mention how special it felt to bring the World Series trophy home to Atlanta.
“It was exciting to watch the Braves win the World Series for the first time since 1995, therefore it’s an amazing thing to be a part of.” – UNG Student Pierce Williams
Pierce Williams also mentioned how he keeps seeing many University of North Georgia students repping their Braves attire. Atlanta sports fans are now overjoyed from the win and they can’t stop showing the pride that they have in the Atlanta Braves.
“Watching the games leading up to the World Series had my emotions going crazy but now the joy I feel is amazing.” – UNG Student Cloi Merrits
The World Series win has made the entire community around UNG and Atlanta as a whole so joyful. On the UNG Gainesville campus, students are still seen talking about the series and celebrating the win.
The Braves had 44 wins before the All-Star Break and they achieved 44 wins after. This number is special because it was the late Hank Aaron’s number. The most legendary Braves player of all time passed away in January 2021. After such an impressive season the Atlanta Braves are indeed the 2021 World Series Champions.
