It’s as easy as taking candy from a baby… or delivering the candy.
With tuition and dues to pay, a lot of students find themselves in a tight spot when it comes to money.
But with an online application, ID verification and a background check, students are joining delivery platforms to earn quick cash.
On the DoorDash website, it states that “dashers” can make their own schedule, earn when they want, and can be their own boss.
Luke Hempen, sophomore finance major, says, “Yeah, the website doesn’t lie. I can dash whenever I want. It even gives me notifications whenever Dahlonega is busy. Although the pay can be a little wavy… the pay offers can be good when it’s busy, but they can be bad when it’s not.”
And if you’re on the ordering side of the transaction, DoorDash has a discount for students. Signing up for the Student DashPass Plan gets you a DashPass for $4.99 instead of $9.99.
Doordash isn’t the only app out there.
Kalen Qadri, sophomore kinesiology major, has a bit of experience with UberEats. Qadri says “With UberEats, I feel like I can control my earnings a bit more. They also have some promotions that can feel like a real bonus sometimes.”
According to withpara.com, the average hourly make of a DoorDash driver is from $15-$25, GrubHub is $16.80-$30.60 (not including fuel costs), and UberEats is $12-$17 an hour.
Kyle Dobso, sophomore says, “My experience with GrubHub hasn’t been much at all. I got interested and wanted to try it out, but there was a waitlist for drivers in the Dahlonega area. I’ve been on the waitlist for about two weeks now with no openings.”
There are also apps like Instacart where people get paid to gather and deliver people their groceries.
Ty Wisniewski, junior business major, says “Yeah, with Instacart, I can literally go grocery shopping for people. It takes a little bit longer than DoorDash or GrubHub, but I’ll get like 40 bucks for a delivery, so it really pays off.”
Wisniewski also says, “All I literally have to do is get the money for the groceries, I go shop around for them, then I go and deliver them to the person. It’s so easy, you just have to do the time to do it.”
