On Oct. 18, the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus came alive with vibrant energy as students and supporters gathered for a drag show celebrating LGBT History Month. The event, organized by Spectrum Alliance, was a colorful showcase of talent, inclusivity and self-expression.
The stage was set for a dazzling evening as five drag performers competed for the top spots, with Bradley Bohn ultimately taking first place after a performance that captivated the audience. Blue secured second place, while Nino Ohrenberg claimed third.
Each contestant brought something unique to the stage, with performances ranging from comedic routines to emotional lip syncs and high-energy dance numbers, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats throughout the night. The performers’ creativity and charisma shone through in their costumes, choreography and interactions with the crowd.
Beyond the main performances, the event was filled with interactive activities designed to engage the audience and promote a sense of community. One of the highlights of the evening was a series of lip sync battles that allowed audience members to step into the spotlight and showcase their own talents.
These impromptu performances sparked excitement and laughter, adding a playful and inclusive element to the event. During intermission, the fun continued with games like a mad lib challenge, where participants worked together to create a hilarious story, a mummy wrapping contest that pitted two teams against each other in a race to wrap their partners in toilet paper and a lighthearted costume contest with “costumes” that four audience members wore that night.
The Spectrum Alliance, who coordinated the show, is dedicated to fostering an environment of acceptance and understanding for LGBTQ+ students on campus. Events like this are designed to raise awareness about LGBTQ+ issues and provide a safe, supportive space for students of all identities. The drag show not only celebrated LGBTQ+ History Month but also served as a reminder of the importance of visibility, acceptance and community building.
“The audience was amazing, and they really made my experience fun. So shout out to the audience members; you’re awesome.” – Nino Ohrenberg, 3rd place winner
UNG Gainesville community’s support for the event is a testament to its growing commitment to inclusivity. The large turnout reflected the strong sense of allyship within the student body, with many in attendance voicing their appreciation for the event’s message of love, diversity and acceptance. For many students, the drag show was more than just entertainment — it was an affirmation of the progress being made in creating a more inclusive and supportive campus culture.
