The University of North Georgia’s Dahlonega campus is offering an improved shuttle service, the Nighthawks Express, adding three off-campus stops to its original route and introducing an app to manage campus transportation. These changes are “designed to make commuting easier and more convenient for students living in nearby housing communities,” according to UNG’s Parking and Transportation services.
The shuttle’s new route includes stops at three off-campus housing locations: the Bellamy, University Heights and HawksNest Commons.
On Sundays, the Nighthawks Express now offers a Walmart route at 3 p.m. from the Dining Hall to the Dahlonega Walmart that returns to campus at 4 p.m.
Sophomore digital arts major, Gigi Little, says, “I used to use a trail to get to campus, but I feel a lot better having reliable transportation to campus. Also, I’m a fan of public transportation, so I try to use the shuttle any time I can.” As an off-campus resident, Little says, “I leave an hour early just in case, so I haven’t really had issues being on time or getting to the right place.”

Along with route changes and additional stops, UNG’s shuttle service rebrand as the “Nighthawk Express” includes a complete redesign and updated wraps on all operating busses.
Transportation Supervisor, Chris Price, says, “We wanted to get caught up with other schools in the area with our transportation, so it was time for us to upgrade.”
“We try to have all five buses running during the school week,” says Price, “If you ever need to know where a bus is going, we put magnets on the side that say what each bus is used for and they can be tracked on the app [Passio Go].”
Price says there’s also another option if there’s not a shuttle and a student is in a predicament, “If students ever have issues or need rides, Campus PD is always available for transportation.”
