The Start of a New School Year: Moving Onto Campus

Moving onto a new college campus can be daunting, here are some questions and answers that will hopefully help you.

Freshman chemistry major, Dane Hardeman said that he was curious about what paperwork and how much paperwork there would be prior to moving in as he had not been given any information on that.

At the University of North Georgia, there was not much paperwork involved in finding on-campus housing, most of the process is online through the student/cadet housing portal. More information on UNG housing can be found here.

He said that he didn’t really know where to start in terms of looking for what to get for his dorm room.

Asking around for things to bring and not to bring for your dorm room is a good idea, but if you don’t know anybody that can give any insight, just start with bare minimum living items because you can always go out to the store and get anything you forgot or missed later.

Hardeman was also worried about how many people would be moving into the dorms simultaneously with him.

Depending on the assigned move-in time, there could be a lot of people moving in or only a few.

Junior public relations major, Abigayle Roma said that she wished she had known to get there a bit before her move-in time, since there may be issues slowing down the move-in process. Roma also said that students should be prepared to have to wait in their cars for a bit while they wait to be directed further.  Roma also wished she had known beforehand was that there are people there specifically to help that would make the move-in process much quicker.

Roma’s advice to anyone moving in, especially first-timers, is “moving on campus is a hassle, but try to get your things where you want them for the semester because life gets very busy very quickly.”
