The spirit of Hawaii is coming to the North Georgia mountains once again as Nighthawks Entertainment prepares for their annual Luau. The event will be held April 4 on the University of North Georgia’s Dahlonega campus from 7- 10 p.m. Attendees are urged to come in their best Luau gear to participate in the costume contest. There will also be dancing, games, free food, and prizes.

Haley Thacker, a senior Healthcare Services and Informatics Administration major and president of Nighthawks Entertainment Club says, “The Luau is the annual dance we enjoy having. We pass out leis and love seeing students in Luau attire. The Nighthawks’ goal is for students to have fun and enjoy being with their friends.”

Loren Sullivan, a senior Elementary and Special Education major and representative of Nighthawks Entertainment says, “The goal of this event is for students to have fun and relieve some stress as things start to get hectic in the spring semester.” She says, “this is a great time to let loose, get some free food and drinks, win some prizes, and make new friends.”

Christopher Noell, a senior Spanish major says the Luau is the most memorable event on campus. He says, “I think the Luau has always been a fan favorite at the UNG. I used to be a part of the club, so I know how much effort goes into an event like this. Everyone always has so much fun getting dressed up in their Hawaiian fits and dancing with their friends.”

Noell says the Luau is “such a blast” and he likes seeing everyone go all out in their Hawaiian outfits.

Sullivan says, “Typically, we have several hundreds of students attend, and most of them dress up and dance for hours…I would almost describe it as a Luau homecoming.” She says anyone looking to get involved on campus or just enjoy something free to do should definitely come out to the Luau or any of the upcoming events that NED puts on.

The next event NED is hosting is “Spring Jam” April 12, 1- 7 p.m. on Dahlonega’s Drill Field.
