On Oct. 18 the Gainesville Chicken Festival celebrates its 20th Anniversary and this year includes a sticker contest.

Submissions for the sticker are due on Friday, September 19th, approximately one month before the actual festival date.
The contest is free to enter and any materials and techniques are usable including graphic design, crayons and repurposed construction. There are no limits on how you create your sticker, but the size does matter.
There are two different sizes, a 3 x 3 inch circle or a 3.5 x 5 inch rectangle.
There are plenty of different ways to turn in your design, but there are some requirements. You must include your full name (first and last), age, city of residence and phone number or email address. Also, contestants must be residents of Gainesville – Hall County.
The stickers may be dropped off in person Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Gainesville Welcome Center in Suite 100. They can also be entered via mail to the Gainesville Public Relations Department to Public Relations Director Christina Santee-Moss, P.O. Box 2496, Gainesville, GA, 30503. The last way to turn in the sticker is through the Gainesville Facebook page @GainesvilleGeorgiaGovernment.
“We’re coming up with a couple of extra special things as well. A couple more games and a couple more ways for the community to get involved, so we’re really excited.”- Lauren Schubert, tourism communication manager for the City of Gainesville.
The Gainesville Chicken Festival is the official chicken cook-off of Georgia. There are over a dozen teams and more than 7,000 pounds of chicken will be prepared. The winner is decided by popular vote. If you eat, you vote.
Festival hours range from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and wristband sales end at 3:00 p.m. The food service ends at 3:45 p.m. and the award ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m.
For one wristband, it’ll cost $6. For a family or friend group, you could purchase the “Cluck Pack” which includes five wristbands priced at $25. Each wristband will provide you 10 samples of chicken.
There will be live music and a kid’s zone that will include bounce-houses and more.
“We won’t have any live music per-say but we will have a DJ. JB Jams will be there. They do a great job getting everyone involved, from the kids to the parents. We are very pleased with the job they do,” said Morgan Wingler, special events manager for Lake Lanier Olympic Park. “They have the chicken dance, and many other ways that they get the crowd ramped up. They will walk around as well to make sure the whole festival is covered.”
The festival is offering a scholarship to current high school seniors. For more information click here.
“If you’re looking for any other information about the Chicken Festival, visit exploregainesville.org, and then hit events under annual events. You’ll see all of the events we have city wide. You’ll see the chicken logo, click it and it’ll tell you everything,” Schubert said.
