Located on the University of North Georgia Gainesville campus, the Secret Santa Car Show brings automotive enthusiasts together for a fun day of sharing their passion while raising funds to support a very worthy cause.
Established in 2010, the Secret Santa Car Show began its journey by raising $1,400 the first year and bringing Christmas cheer to six needy children in the Oakwood area. Since then, they have continued to grow their organization and have helped hundreds of children and their families in Oakwood have a brighter Christmas.
The event is the primary fundraiser of Community Care, a private non-profit organization established to provide consistent support for the Secret Santa Project. Community Care has a volunteer board of community leaders and citizens who give their time and talent to make this event possible.
Xavier Diaz, a local of Oakwood, has been bringing his truck to the event for 3 years now.
“It’s a great thing they are doing out here, supporting the community while having a fun day looking at cars, it’s amazing.”- Xavier Diaz, Oakwood resident.
Diaz brought his 1986 Chevrolet Silverado he keeps in great shape and barely drives. “I probably only drive it once a month; it doesn’t really leave the garage.”
The show is very versatile with its cars; you could see older vehicles, such as a 1966 Ford Mustang convertible, and a couple of rows over would be a brand-new Lamborghini.
Food and drinks were offered, but the biggest attraction seemed to be the raffles. People were lining up in hopes their name would be called to win different prizes. At the end of the event, the top 20 cars are announced, and winners get a plaque and a T-shirt.
The event is not only a good time, but it’s for a great cause. The support from the community is overwhelming and only continues to get bigger.
