Apple has created nine watches with over five series. The newer the watch the more features included. One thing they all have in common is the health and fitness tracking.
The first feature you should focus on is your activity ring, it’s customizable to fit your personal goals. The red ring tracks your active calories, green tracks your exercise and blue tells how frequently you’ve stood throughout the day.
All watches have a default goal of 12 hours and 30 minutes to reach a standard target. In order to close your rings you must move at least once every hour in a 12 hour day.
For many Apple Watch owners meeting their standard goal is quite easy, that’s why they prefer to use their watch to keep track of their workout segments. Apple has over 17 different types of workouts. It’s recommended that in order to keep an accurate goal for each person you have to update your height and weight on the health app.
You can switch workouts from walking to swimming in a matter of seconds. Once you’ve chosen a workout you can either continue exercising until you’re tired or customize it to meet a certain time, calorie loss or distance.
Apple helps you keep track of all your segments just by double tapping on your screen, it also gives you digital metal rewards after completing workouts under a specific time or depending how frequent you practice.
Not only can you see your segments but now it has the feature to share your log with friends. Students have been using this feature to compete with friends to determine who’s exercised the most.
Sara Correal says that she shares her workout segments with more than four friends, “I’m currently competing with my friends to see who works out the most by the end of the week and whoever wins gets a free meal on Friday.”
The 21-year-old says that being able to visibly see her achievements motivates her to close all her rings everyday.
“It helps me see how many calories I’ve lost and it also makes me feel healthy.”- Sara Correal
A survey indicated that 16 of 20 students complete their activity rings every day. Lisa Burney says that completing her rings is the least of her concerns. “I just don’t feel like it makes a difference and I usually just complete one ring.” She knows that she walks enough to be healthy.
Here are some tips to help you close all three of your activity rings:
- Keep your rings as one of your lock features to see it every time you look at the time.
- Add music or podcasts to your watch to help motivate you to keep walking.
- Set your mode on Focus for Fitness to keep you away from any distractions.
- Set a reminder to help you remember to workout.
