On Sept. 21 there was an incident reported on the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus that public safety reported, followed days later by the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report on Sept. 27.

At approximately 6 p.m. on Sept. 21, a man exposed himself to another individual while attempting to conceal himself with a book.

“The suspected offender is described as an African American male, early twenties, around 5 feet 7 inches tall, 180 pounds, medium-length afro, black shirt, black baggy pants with skulls on them, red backpack,” via UNG’s public safety email.

Within 24 hours, the suspect was identified and arrested according to Greg Williams, the director of public safety and chief of police at UNG.

All campus crimes are tracked by the university and published in the annual security and fire safety report. Tracked crimes include, Murder and Non-negligent Manslaughter, Negligent Manslaughter, Rape, Fondling, Incest, Statutory Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Motor Vehicle Theft, Arson, Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Stalking, Weapons: Carrying, Possessing, etc, Drug Abuse Violations, and Liquor Law Violations.

The Blue Ridge campus has had only one crime reported in the last three years, a motor vehicle theft in 2020. The report noted that there were no “reportable hate crimes” on the Blue Ridge campus during the years 2019-2021.

UNG’s Cumming campus has had three reportable crimes in the years 2019-2021, one instance of aggravated assault and two instances of stalking. There were no reported crimes for this campus in 2021. The report noted that there were no “reportable hate crimes” on the Cumming campus during the years 2019-2021.

The Dahlonega campus has had over 100 crimes reported of varying offenses in the years 2019-2021. The report noted that there were two “reportable hate crimes” on the Dahlonega campus during the years 2019-2021.

UNG’s Gainesville campus has also had a number of reported crimes, though significantly less the Dahlonega campus. The report noted that there were no “reportable hate crimes” on the Gainesville campus during the years 2019-2021.

Lastly, the Oconee campus has had five crimes listed in the report, four instances of stalking and one instance of carrying a weapon that ended in disciplinary action. The report noted that there were no “reportable hate crimes” on the Oconee campus during the years 2019-2021.
