On Wednesday Oct. 9, the Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) and Career Services departments hosted a Diversity Career Mixer on the University of North Georgia’s Gainesville campus. The event provided a space for students to interact with employers in a “casual setting” while enjoying food and refreshments.
“The purpose of the event is to give students the opportunity to meet with potential employers and practice their networking skills.” – Kyle Murphy, Associate Director of Multicultural Student Affairs
Organizations such as Enterprise Holdings, Associated Credit Union and the FBI made appearances to share opportunities with the students on campus and answer any questions they had.
Enterprise Holdings sent representatives Jessi Marquardt and Garric Hawkins Jr., the Talent Acquisition Manager and the Area Manager of the Atlanta East Rent-A-Car division, respectively.
Marquardt and Hawkins sat with students while giving advice on what Enterprise Holdings look for in future applicants alongside the internships that they offer. Enterprise Holdings offered a spring, summer and fall internship starting at $17.50 an hour. Although the summer internship is only available to juniors and seniors, it does allow for growth within the position that can lead to full-time management. Overall, they expressed a strong desire for people with customer service experience and for people who genuinely care for others.
The Associated Credit Union provided members Kris Stoutamire, the Business Development Coordinator, and Kimberly Barbani, the Branch Manager of the Oakwood Branch location. Their main goal was teaching students about various financial wellness points that could help them in the future.
Along a similar vein to Enterprise Holdings, they also provide internships to students, albeit only during the summertime. However, on a separate note, Stoutamire did remark that if a student shows exceptional promise, they can be hired on the spot in a part-time position until they graduate.
Representing the FBI were their Applicant, Liaison and Internship Coordinators. Together they listed out the potential internships available to students through their programs alongside resume building, potential pay rates and a breakdown of the 13 squads that operate within the Atlanta division.
