For the past 50 years, the media has been buzzing about the identity of the puzzling murders of the notorious Zodiac killer.
The Zodiac killer is directly linked to killing a confirmed five, and possibly more, people in northern California in 1968 and 1969. The menacing killer terrified communities in and around the San Francisco area. According to FoxNews.com, “The Zodiac terrorized communities across Northern California in the late 1960s. The killer has been connected to five killings but claimed to have murdered 37 victims… On July 4, 1969, another man and woman were shot in Vallejo… Later that year, a couple was stabbed near a lake… A cab driver was fatally shot in San Francisco that year as well.”
The killer got his infamous title on his own. He wrote provoking complex cipher in the form of letters to the press and regional newspapers signing every letter he wrote with a symbol that resembled crosshairs.
There is no explanation behind the associated symbol with the Zodiac killer, but it had been discovered after the killing of Zodiac’s first two victims.
The suspect list for the killer has grown over the past 50 years with multiple different contenders. Many physical descriptions provided on ZodiacKillerFacts.com by eyewitnesses say that the Zodiac was a short-haired brunette that had a “beefy build.” They say that he could have been just shy of weighing 200 pounds and that he couldn’t have been taller than 5’8. All witnesses say that he looked to be around 40 years old.
So who is the Zodiac killer?
He has been identified as Gary Francis Poste. In a note that Poste wrote, the letters of his full name were taken out of the cipher that then revealed a different message than the original. Poste was a U.S. Air Force veteran and two of his relatives had reported and accused him of being the killer.
FoxNews.com also says, “The Case Breakers is now saying it has identified the Zodiac Killer as Gary Francis Poste, who passed away in 2018. The team’s years of digging uncovered new forensic evidence and photos from Poste’s darkroom. One image features scars on the forehead of Poste that match scars on a sketch of the Zodiac, the team said.”
