Located just a few minutes down the road from the University of North Georgia Dahlonega campus is Hickory Prime BBQ. People may be wary of a restaurant that is attached to a Chevron, but Hickory Prime is anything but sketchy.
Inside, dozens of awards line the walls from different barbecue competitions that Hickory Prime has won in the past. The walls also feature plenty of barbecue-inspired art. The seating is similar to most American restaurants, with tables complete with checkered tablecloths available for customers, along with a bar with a view of the many awards and acknowledgments that the restaurant has won.
The pricing on the menu is also reasonable, which is a must for many college students. For around $10, you can get three ribs, two sides and a drink. The restaurant compares favorably to other options within Dahlonega, as it offers a similar price to fast-food restaurants while simultaneously offering a sit-down restaurant experience that many crave.
Sam Jones, a sophomore communications major, says that the restaurant is a welcome sight for those who enjoy barbecue.
He says, “My friends and I have been looking for a good barbecue place in North Georgia, but everything is either too expensive or just straight up bad. Hickory Prime is a nice blend of affordability and quality.”
Hickory Prime’s real strength lies in its sauces. With at least half a dozen different sauce options to choose from, the tastes of just about anyone can be met at Hickory Prime.
So if you are a Dahlonega college student who loves BBQ, Hickory Prime is worth giving a try. It could even end up being your new favorite restaurant.
