Auxiliary Services at the University of North Georgia hosted “Name–That–Shuttle events on Oct. 8 and Oct. 10 to encourage students to suggest new names for UNG shuttle services.
The University of North Georgia’s shuttle services are set to get a rebrand in 2025.
UNG Auxillary Services hosted “Name-That-Shuttle” events on the Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses throughout the week to involve students in choosing a new name and theme for the services. Alyssa Annis, director of marketing for auxiliary services, shared that the department aims to highlight the shuttle system to students who may not be taking advantage of the resource.
“We are renaming and rebranding the entire shuttle system, not just the buses,” Annis said. “They’re going to be wrapped with a new, exciting graphic to come, once we decide on the name. Hopefully, we get some really good ideas from students.”
Annis explained that the officials with the department will review the names submitted then hold a vote with the student body.
The event featured free specialty lattes from the Coffee Camper Co., which were available to all students who suggested a name. History major Olivia Carrillo, who submitted the name “Nigel’s Ride,” was among the students participating. Carrillo shared that while she was more motivated by the free coffee to participate, she admired UNG’s effort to include students in the decision-making process.

UNG staff member Nallely Guerrero also shared her name submission.
“I actually did a play on words, and just translated the word ‘the hawk’ in Spanish to ‘El Halcón,’ just to really include the diversity that the university has here, especially on the Gainesville campus,” Guerrero said.
UNG Auxiliary Services will announce the winner of the competition in November, with plans to launch the re-brand in 2025. Annis said that while the department is looking to update the system, the resource will continue to be available to students prior to the re-launch.
“The Shuttle System is at both Dahlonega and Gainesville campuses,” Annis said. “It’s really easy to look on our website and see what the normal route is, and they even go to some of the apartment complexes off-campus for Gainesville.”
Students can also request a shuttle pick-up to get them from a location through the Passio Go app.
