Gainesville’s Black Student Union will be hosting their annual costume ball on Wednesday, Oct. 30 in the Student Center’s Robinson Ballroom from 7 – 10 p.m.
Bisrat Degu, President of the BSU and a biology major, stated that the costume ball is a tradition for BSU at this point. “It’s a time for students to come together and express themselves through costumes, with food, drinks and music. It’s a chance for students to…have a fun time.”
Degu hopes that the ball will serve as a fun way for attendees to find community among their peers. “UNG Gainesville is a commuter campus, so most people don’t usually spend much time after school hanging out and creating a social environment where they can just talk and make friends,” he said. “So I’m hoping that students will hear about the costume ball and have an opportunity to meet new people.”
Students are encouraged to be creative and express themselves through their costumes. Food, drinks and snacks will be provided as well as a variety of music. This year’s main cuisine will be Jamaican food, so students can expect to be served dishes such as oxtail, curry goat and jerk chicken.
