It all started on Oct. 6, 2019, with a fire that destroyed the barn containing a 1965 Shelby Cobra built by Jason Fields.

The devastating loss of the car inspired a desire to build a second car. But better. Jason Fields said, “Losing the first father-son project was hard and made me want to bring it back to life.” On May 7, 2020, the new kit was delivered to the shop. Jason Fields, Jordan Fields, and I began the assembly process of the car.

The car was just a frame and a body with boxes of parts when we received it. Jordan and I decided to start a YouTube channel to document the process.

Excitement built up as the car started to come together over the months. Once the motor was in the car and it could roll on the ground, we loaded it up and took it to the London Cobra Show in Ohio. There, we caught the attention of the owner of Factory Five, the company that makes the kit, and were invited to have the car shown in the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.

After returning home from Ohio everyone was excited to finish the build and head to SEMA. Things started to take shape and the car was finally running. Once the body got back from paint and the car was back from upholstery, we could assemble the outer portion of the car.

Close to finishing the car, we watched the countdown clock and started to prepare for SEMA. This put on the pressure as Jason says, “the hardest part of the build has been the deadline we have been on to get the car finished.”

Even though the deadline can bring on stress, the build has taught everyone something. Jordan said, “The build has taught me to see the bigger picture and be patient for the results.”
