A famous brick is back in Dahlonega after a summer-long adventure on the Appalachian Trail.
Home to the University of North Georgia’s largest campus, the city of Dahlonega is also located only a short distance away from the southernmost part of the Appalachian trail, a 2,198.4-mile hike spanning from Georgia to Maine.
On Monday, Sept. 30, the famous brick, known in the hiking community as “Bricky,” made its way along the entire Appalachian trail throughout 2024 and completed its journey in Dahlonega.
“Bricky” has gotten significant attention across social media platforms like YouTube and Facebook, garnering over 2,000 members in the Facebook group documenting its journey.
Throughout the summer, hikers passed the brick off along the trail with the goal of reaching the summit of Katahdin, in Maine, adding customizations to the brick along the way.
The brick’s creator, who goes by “Rifle,” was reunited with “Bricky” in downtown Dahlonega’s Picnic Café, marking the completion of the journey across the entirety of the Appalachian Trail.
“Frodo,” the hiker who brought Bricky to Katahdin, the northernmost part of the Appalachian trail, delivered it to Rifle in Dahlonega and showed off the brick to passersby in the square.
Dahlonega native and avid “Bricky” fan Leon Rubin said that “following Bricky’s journey has been the highlight of my summer by far!”
Rubin updated the Facebook group shortly after Bricky’s stop in Dahlonega, reporting that “After receiving Bricky on Monday in Dahlonega, Georgia, from Frodo – who carried Bricky to Katahdin last month, Rifle took Bricky back to Neel Gap [where his journey began] and hiked with him to the top of Blood Mountain.”
