Hall County Parks and Leisure Services invites South Hall community members to share their input for a new active life center.
The meeting will take place at the Spouts Springs Library in Flowery Branch from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. this Wednesday.
Members of the community will be able to voice opinions on what the life center should have. Online, members can vote for recreational spaces such as tennis courts, basketball courts, pickleball courts and parks.
The location of the community center will be on Spouts Springs Road in Flowery Branch behind the local water facility.
The zoning order for the life center is in effect, however, it is currently in the planning and development stage.
“This is a great opportunity for the community to have a direct impact on the planning and development process.” – Kathy Cooper, Hall County District One Commissioner
The life center also hopes to include new fitness programs and family-oriented places such as picnic canopies.
“I want the center to include tennis courts, swimming pools and a park,” Chase Ryan, a Hall County resident and sophomore at the University of North Georgia said.
The Hall County board of commissioners sought proposals from qualified consulting firms regarding development and cost proposals for the creation of the active life center in 2024.
The county awarded only one contractor to perform all the services. Although the bid closed last August, there has been no contractor stated for the services of the active life center. The original cost of the facility was estimated at $4.4 million but has since gone down to $3.9 million.
It is clear that residents are excited for the new building.
“I think an active life center would be really cool to have. It gives people the opportunity to be outdoors and something to do in their free time,” Ryan said.
According to Census Bureau estimates, Gainesville, Georgia is the 4th fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States.
Hall County wants to build this recreation center for the growing community. Townhomes and apartments are springing up all over Mundy Mill Road, a road that connects Flowery Branch, Oakwood and Gainesville.
The new life center will provide enough recreational amenities to meet the needs and priorities of the increasing population.
Hall County is committed to creating a family-oriented and public space for their people. The Board of Commissioners wants the community’s voices to come together on this project and make the center unique to South Hall.
