The game room on the third floor of Hoag has a marketing problem. It was previously a computer lab, and last semester, SGA refurbished it with gaming chairs, monitors, and a large TV. But at Monday’s meeting in Dahlonega, SGA representatives said it’s underused.
Dahlonega SGA Advisor Mallory Rodriguez says the Nighthawk ID swipes to get into the game room are at an all-time low. She says that it could be a marketing issue and believes that many students are unaware of the room.
Students can use the gaming room for Wii console games and PC gaming from noon to 10 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, noon to 5 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
Steven Gresham, a sophomore computer science major, says SGA should market the game room to residents because commuters, like himself, are not aware of its existence. Rodriguez agreed that the late hours of operation would be best for marketing to residents.
Gresham said he believes the most effective way to market the game room would be to “send a mass email,” and recommend that SGA advertise it “in places where people who use student services actually go.”
Dahlonega SGA Vice President Sara Gonzalez said she thinks inviting resident halls to have a resident hall game night would provide visibility for the game room.
