The Beatles’ music lives on in Dahlonega with University of North Georgia Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts club which meets bi-weekly to discuss The Beatles’ music, facts and aims to introduce members to a variety of music.
Club founder, Steven Gresham, said students can expect, “A fun time to meet new friends and collaborate with amazing people. We have some funny discussions.” Gresham is involved in many clubs on campus, and he also leads the Swing Dance club. He founded the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club due to his love for The Beatles, and the club now has approximately 10 members who regularly come.
“It’s really nice being able to talk to people with the same hyper-obsession as you. It’s something to look forward to throughout the week. Like ‘Oh yeah I’ve got Beatles club today.’ It’s just an awesome little friend group.” – Steven Gresham, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Founder
The Beatles aren’t the only topic of discussion during the club’s meetings. Exchanges of music by different artists, bands and genres happen as well. Gresham said, “At our last meeting, everyone had a chance to make a presentation for their own favorite band or artist. Then the next meeting we had a jeopardy style game based off of those presentations.” Other activities include drawing a member from The Beatles out of a hat, and then whoever’s name you drew you had to debate why they were the best member in The Beatles.
The idea came to Gresham last semester due to his involvement in 5-6 other clubs on campus. He loved The Beatles and saw the opportunity to make his own club, so during Hawkfest in 2025 he printed QR codes with a link to sign up for the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club.
Gresham encourages anyone with an interest in The Beatles to stop by and check out the meetings. There is also a GroupMe for those looking to get involved. Make sure to check out the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts club every other week at 5 p.m. in Dunlap Hall classroom 211B with the next meeting happening April 8.
