WNHR is helping University of North Georgia students take the first steps toward creating their own podcasts, offering a workshop-style event focused on planning, structure and production.
The student media outlet on the Gainesville Campus promoted a “How to: Plan a Podcast” session designed to walk students through the process of building a show from the ground up. The event is aimed at students who may have ideas for a podcast but do not know where to begin.
Planning a podcast often starts with a simple idea, but turning that idea into a finished show takes more organization. Students must choose a topic, decide on a format, identify their audience and plan how often they want to release episodes. They also have to think about equipment, recording space, editing and promotion.
For students new to audio production, those steps can feel overwhelming. WNHR’s event gives them a place to learn the basics in a more approachable setting, while also connecting with student media resources on campus.

The workshop could be especially useful for students interested in journalism, communications, marketing or digital storytelling. Podcasting has become a common way for students and young creators to share information, interviews and personal stories, and it continues to grow as a media format.
“WNHR gives students a place to turn an idea into something real.”- Christian Maldonado, WNHR Vice President
The event also fits into WNHR’s larger role at UNG, where student media provides hands-on experience in broadcasting and content creation. By showing students how to plan before they record, the station is helping them build stronger projects and better habits from the start.
Podcasting may seem simple from the outside, but events like this show that good shows begin with careful planning. For UNG students, that guidance could be the difference between an idea that stays on paper and one that actually gets made.
