Attempting to bring back what has worked in the past, Disney is bringing back the old for a new generation.
Much like Disney did for “Hannah Montana,” “The Muppet Show” swings back into action with the “Muppets Show Revival,” which aired on ABC and was released on Disney Plus. This revival is an attempt to bring back the “Muppet Show” full-time with special guest, Sabrina Carpenter. ABC is using a superstar and bringing back the nostalgic show to captivate old and new fans across the nation.
The new “Muppet Show” aired the 50 anniversary special following the premiere of the original show. This will mark a decade since it aired on ABC in their own scripted primetime TV show.
The show allows audiences to reimmerse themselves in the Muppets universe in a new way. The wildly successful variety show reached over 235 million viewers across over 100 countries, nominated for 21 Primetime Emmy Awards, and received the Peabody Award in 1978.
Muppets have been played in households since the 70s. Celebrity guest stars like Maya Rudolph and Seth Rogen really added a comedic touch to the show. If the show does well, more episodes will get produced with additional exciting guest stars.
According to Deadline, “‘The Muppet Show has endeared a solid audience since its premiere on February 4, delivering nearly 8 million total viewers within eight days of multi-platform viewing across ABC and Disney+,” said Disney.”
Featured in the episode are nostalgic characters Miss Piggy, Kermit the Frog and Sabrina Carpenter.
Viewership is proving that bring back older shows and actors is a brand choice. It’s a testament that people still want The Muppets and are embracing the new.
